A (goodly) number from those of old, 39 and many from the later generations. 40 And those on the Left Hand Who will be those on the Left Hand? 41 mid burning winds and boiling waters 42 and a shade of thick, pitch-black smoke, 43 which will neither be cool nor soothing. 44 For that they were wont to be indulged, before that, in wealth (and luxury), 45 And they used to persist in the great violation, 46 And they used to say: "When we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be resurrected? 47 And so will our fathers?" 48 Say, "Indeed, the earlier ones and the later ones 49 shall be gathered to the appointed time of a known day. 50 Then you erring ones, you that cried lies, 51 Most surely eat of a tree of Zaqqoom, 52 and fill your bellies with it, 53 and on top of this you will drink boiling water 54 Drinking even as the camel drinketh. 55 That is their accommodation on the Day of Recompense. 56 We have created you, then why would you not confirm it? 57 Do ye then see?- The (human Seed) that ye throw out,- 58 Do you create a child out of it, or are We its creators? 59 It is We who have ordained death for all of you; and We cannot be prevented 60 That We may substitute others like unto you and produce you into that which ye know not. 61 And ye certainly know already the first form of creation: why then do ye not celebrate His praises? 62 Have ye seen that which ye cultivate? 63 Is it you who makes it grow, or are We the grower? 64 If We so wished, We could have reduced your harvest to rubble, and you would have been left wonder-struck to exclaim: 65 "We are ruined, 66 Indeed, we have been deprived of the fruits of our labour." 67 See ye the water which ye drink? 68 Is it you who sent it down from the clouds or is it We who have sent it down? 69 Were it Our Will, We could make it salt (and unpalatable): then why do ye not give thanks? 70 Have you seen the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you who have brought into being the tree that serves as its fuel - or are We the cause of its coming into being? 72 We, even We, appointed it a memorial and a comfort for the dwellers in the wilderness. 73 Glorify, then, (O Prophet), the name of your Great Lord. 74
