The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
A requester seeks the punishment that will take place – 1 for the unbelievers, which none may avert, 2 From Allah, Lord of the Ascending Stairways 3 To Him the angels and the Spirit (Gabriel) ascend in a day, the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 So be thou patient with a sweet patience; 5 Indeed, they see it [as] distant, 6 But We see it (quite) near. 7 [It will take place] on a Day when the sky will be like molten lead, 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 And no familiar friend will ask a question of his friend 10 They will be shown each other. The criminal will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his children 11 his wife, his brother, 12 His kindred who sheltered him, 13 And all that are in the earth, if then it might deliver him. 14 But never. It is pure white flame 15 will strip-off the flesh 16 It will claim all such as turn their backs [on what is right,] and turn away [from the truth,] 17 and who accumulated wealth without spending it for a good purpose. 18 ۞ Lo! man was created anxious, 19 When evil toucheth him, he is bewailing. 20 And when good touches him, withholding [of it], 21 Except those who establish prayer. 22 Who are at their prayer constant. 23 And those in whose riches is a known right. 24 for the beggar and the outcast, 25 and those who believe in the Day of Judgement 26 And those who are fearful of their Lord's torment 27 for none is secure from the punishment of their Lord, 28 and who are mindful of their chastity, 29 Except with their wives and the (captives) whom their right hands possess,- for (then) they are not to be blamed, 30 But whosoever seeks beyond that, then it is those who are trespassers. 31 And those who are to their trusts and promises attentive 32 and perform their witnessings, 33 And those who keep a guard on their prayer, 34 all these shall live honourably in the Gardens. 35
