The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
A requester seeks the punishment that will take place – 1 The Unbelievers, the which there is none to ward off,- 2 a chastisement from Allah, the Lord of the ascending steps, 3 To whom the angels and the soul take a day to ascend, whose length is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore, [O believer,] endure all adversity with goodly patience: 5 Lo! they behold it afar off 6 But We see it (quite) near. 7 The day when the sky will be like molten silver. 8 And the mountains will be like flakes of wool, 9 and no bosom friend will enquire about any of his bosom friends 10 Though they will be given sight of them. The guilty man will long to be able to ransom himself from the punishment of that day at the price of his children 11 his companion (wife), his brother, 12 And his kin that harboured him 13 And all those who are on the earth, to save himself. 14 By no means! Surely it is a flaming fire 15 Plucking out (his being) right to the skull!- 16 It shall call him who turneth back and backslideth. 17 and who accumulated wealth without spending it for a good purpose. 18 ۞ Indeed, mankind was created anxious: 19 Being greatly grieved when evil afflicts him 20 And niggardly when good touches him; 21 except those who are steadfast 22 and constant in their prayers. 23 And those in whose wealth exists a recognised right, 24 For the beggar who asks, and for the unlucky who has lost his property and wealth, (and his means of living has been straitened); 25 who confirm the Day of Reckoning 26 And those who fear the displeasure of their Lord,- 27 the punishment of their Lord is not something for them to feel secure of, 28 And those who protect their private organs (from adultery). 29 Are free of blame, 30 But those who trespass beyond this are transgressors;- 31 And those who are faithful to their trusts and their covenant 32 And those who are in their testimonies upright 33 And those who guard their Salat (prayers) well. 34 These will dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
