The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
A caller supplicated about a punishment to fall on 1 The infidels, of which there is no averter. 2 (A punishment) from Allah, the Owner of the Elevated Passages. 3 (Whereby) the angels and the Spirit ascend unto Him in a Day whereof the span is fifty thousand years. 4 So be thou patient with a sweet patience; 5 they see it as being far off; 6 While we behold it nigh: 7 On that Day the heavens shall become like molten brass, 8 And then the mountains shall become like unto wool dyed. 9 And no familiar friend will ask a question of his friend 10 They will be shown each other. The criminal will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his children 11 His wife and his brother, 12 And his family who had stood by him, 13 And all those who are in the earth – then only if the redemption saves him! 14 No, in truth, it is a Furnace! 15 stripping away his skin, 16 It shall insistently summon him who turned his back and retreated, 17 And collected [wealth] and hoarded. 18 ۞ Verily, man (disbeliever) was created very impatient; 19 bewailing when evil befalls him, 20 If good comes to him he holds back his hand, 21 But not so the worshippers 22 Those who remain constant in their Salat (prayers); 23 And those in whose riches is a known right. 24 for the impoverished nonrequester and the requester, 25 who confirm the Day of Doom 26 And those who are fearful of the punishment of their Lord - 27 for, behold, of their Sustainer's chastisement none may ever feel [wholly] secure; 28 and who are mindful of their chastity, 29 Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they are not to be blamed - 30 whereas such as seek to go beyond that [limit] are truly transgressors; 31 And those who keep their trusts and covenants; 32 and who stand firm whenever they bear witness; 33 And those who keep a guard on their prayer, 34 They will be honoured in the Gardens of Bliss. 35
