The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
A beseecher besought the visitation of chastisement, 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can repel, 2 From Allah, Owner of the ascending steps. 3 Whereby the angels ascend unto Him and also the spirit, On a Day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. 4 So be thou patient with a sweet patience; 5 they see it as being far off; 6 but We see it to be very near. 7 The day the sky becomes like molten brass, 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 And not a friend shall ask a friend, 10 Though they will be given sight of them. The guilty man will long to be able to ransom himself from the punishment of that day at the price of his children 11 his companion (wife), his brother, 12 And his nearest kindred who shelter him 13 and all the people of the earth, if that could deliver him. 14 By no means! It will be the fierce flame 15 Taking away (burning completely) the head skin! 16 It calls out to him who reverted and turned away. 17 And masseth and then hoardeth. 18 ۞ Indeed, the human was created grudging and impatient. 19 bewailing when evil befalls him, 20 And when good toucheth him he is begrudging. 21 save those that pray 22 Who are at their prayer constant. 23 those who give a due share of their wealth 24 For the needy and those dispossessed, 25 who confirm the Day of Doom 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord, -- 27 (from their Lord's chastisement none feels secure) 28 And those who guard their chastity (i.e. private parts from illegal sexual acts). 29 [not giving way to their desires] with any but their spouses - that is, those whom they rightfully possess [through wedlock]: for then, behold, they are free of all blame, 30 (but whoso seeks after more than that, they are the transgressors), 31 And those who keep their pledges and their covenant, 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies; 33 and are steadfast in their prayers. 34 They will be in gardens, honored. 35
