In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
You, who have wrapped yourself up with a mantle, 1 Keep vigil the night long, save a little - 2 of one-half thereof - or make it a little less than that, 3 Or add to it, and recite the Quran as it ought to be recited. 4 Indeed We shall soon ordain a heavy responsibility upon you. 5 Surely the rising by night is the firmest way to tread and the best corrective of speech. 6 whereas by day a long chain of doings is thy portion. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and, leaving others, devote yourself solely to Him. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West. There is no god but He. So take Him alone as your protector. 9 And patiently endure upon what the disbelievers say, and leave them for good. 10 Leave to Me those who belie, those who lead a life of pleasure, and bear with them yet a little while. 11 Verily We shall have fetters with Us, and a roaring furnace, 12 And food that will stick in the throat, and painful torment 13 (They will come across all this) on the Day when the earth and the mountains shall tremble violently and the mountains shall crumble into heaps of scattered sand. 14 Verily We! We have sent unto you an apostle, a witness over you, even as We sent unto Fir'awn an apostle. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger; so We seized him with a heavy Punishment. 16 If you, disbelieve, how will you be able to protect yourselves from the hardships of the day which would even turn children grey-headed? 17 The heavens itself will be rent asunder (on that day). His promise is bound to be fulfilled. 18 Verily this is a reminder. So let him who desires take the way to his Lord. 19
