The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 arise and warn, 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 and purify your clothing, 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 Burning the skins! 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
