The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you who are clothed! 1 Arise and warn! 2 And your Lord glorify 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 And stay away from idols. 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 And sons present by his side. 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 Then he looked, 21 frowned and scowled, 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 over it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
