The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 arise and warn, 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then he looked around, 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
