The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 Rise up and warn! 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 And your garments do purify, 4 And all abomination shun! 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 Then he beheld, 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed. 31
