Nay, verily: By the Moon, 32 and by the night when it recedes, 33 And the dawn when it shineth forth, 34 Indeed, the Fire is of the greatest [afflictions] 35 a warning to humans, 36 whether one steps forward to embrace the faith or one turns away from it. 37 Each soul is held in pledge for what it earns, 38 Save those who will stand on the right hand. 39 In gardens they will ask one another 40 concerning the sinners, 41 What hath brought you to this burning? 42 and they shall reply, "We were not among those who prayed; 43 "Nor were we of those who fed the indigent; 44 "And we used to talk falsehood (all that which Allah hated) with vain talkers. 45 and we cried lies to the Day of Doom, 46 “Till death overcame us.” 47 So no intercession will avail them. 48 What ails them, that they turn away from the Reminder, 49 as though they were frightened wild asses, 50 Fleeing from a hunter, or a lion, or a beast of prey. 51 Indeed, each one of them desires to be given unrolled scrolls. 52 Never! In fact they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 Nay! it is surely an admonition. 54 So, whoever wills, will remember it. 55 And they will not heed unless Allah willeth (it). He is the fount of fear. He is the fount of Mercy. 56
