The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
WAS THERE NOT a time in the life of man when he was not even a mentionable thing? 1 Surely We have created man from a small life-germ uniting (itself): We mean to try him, so We have made him hearing, seeing. 2 Verily We! We shewed him the way; then he becometh either thankful or ingrate. 3 For the unbelievers, We have kept ready chains and fetters and a Blazing Fire. 4 As to the Righteous, they shall drink of a Cup (of Wine) mixed with Kafur,- 5 A fountain from which the servants of Allah shall drink; they make it to flow a (goodly) flowing forth. 6 Those who fulfil their vows and fear the Day whose evil shall be diffused far and wide, 7 And out of His love, they give food to the needy, the orphan and the prisoner. 8 (saying): 'We feed you only desirous of the Face of Allah; we seek of you neither recompense nor thanks, 9 Verily we dread from our Lord a Day grim and distressful. 10 But Allah will deliver them from the evil of that Day, and will shed over them a Light of Beauty and (blissful) Joy. 11 And reward them, because they were patient, with garden and silk, 12 Reclining in it, upon thrones; they will not see the hot sunshine in it, nor the bitter cold. 13 The shadows will bend over them, and low will hang the clusters of grapes. 14 They will be served with silver dishes and crystal clear goblets. 15 (Transparent as) glass, made of silver; they have measured them according to a measure. 16 And in Paradise they will be given to drink cups, filled with a mixture of ginger. 17 (The water of) a spring therein, named Salsabil. 18 ۞ Immortal youths shall go about them; when thou seest them, thou supposest them scattered pearls, 19 And when you see there, you shall see blessings and a great kingdom. 20 Upon those [blest] will be garments of green silk and brocade; and they will be adorned with bracelets of silver. And their Sustainer will them to drink of a drink most pure. 21 (And it will be said unto them): Lo! this is a reward for you. Your endeavour (upon earth) hath found acceptance. 22
