Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the (Winds) sent forth one after another (to man's profit); 1 storming tempestuously 2 and by the scatterers scattering (rain) 3 then winnow them thoroughly, 4 And then by those that instil Remembrance into the hearts. 5 To end all argument or to warn. 6 that which you have been promised shall be fulfilled. 7 Then when the stars become dim; 8 and when the sky is rent asunder, 9 And when the mountains are made into dust and blown away. 10 And when the time comes for messengers to meet -- 11 For which day were they appointed? 12 For the Day of Decision. 13 And what will explain to thee what is the Day of Sorting out? 14 Woe on that Day to those who reject the truth. 15 Did We not destroy many a nation of the earlier times? 16 Then caused the latter folk to follow after? 17 As such shall We deal with the sinners. 18 Woe on that Day to those that give the lie to the Truth! 19 Have We not created you from a fluid (held) despicable?- 20 which We then let remain in [the womb's] firm keeping 21 for an appointed term? 22 We determined; excellent determiners are We. 23 Woe unto the repudiators on that day! 24 Did We not make the earth a storehouse? 25 Both for the living and the dead, 26 And We placed high mountains as anchors in it and gave you sweet water to drink. 27 Ruin is for the deniers on that day! 28 And those that strike violently, 29 Proceed to a shadow rising in three columns: 30 that will offer no [cooling] shade and will be of no avail against the flame 31 Lo! it throweth up sparks like the castles, 32 To end all argument or to warn. 33 Woe on that day to the rejecters. 34 That will be a Day when they shall not speak (during some part of it), 35 nor will they be permitted to offer any excuses. 36 Woe unto the repudiators on that day! 37 This is the Day of Judgement; We will have assembled you and the former peoples. 38 If now ye have any craft, try that craft upon Me. 39 Ruin is for the deniers on that day! 40
