The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 Is it about the awesome tiding 2 whereon they are at variance. 3 (What they think is certainly despicable!). They will soon come to know (the reality). 4 Nay! Nay! they shall soon know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And We have made your sleep as a rest. 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 and made the day [a symbol of] life. 11 And (have We not) built over you the seven firmaments, 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 And We have sent down from the rain-clouds water plenteous. 14 So that We bring forth thereby corn and vegetation. 15 and gardens luxuriant. 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 It is a Day whereon the trumpet will be blown, and ye will come in multitudes. 18 And the heaven shall be opened so that it shall be all openings, 19 And the mountains are removed and will be [but] a mirage. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 In it shall they remain for a long time. 23 tasting therein neither coolness nor any drink 24 Save scalding water and corruption. 25 An appropriate recompense. 26 For lo! they looked not for a reckoning; 27 And called Our communications a lie, giving the lie (to the truth). 28 And all things We have recorded in a Book. 29 Taste therefore. We shall not increase you in aught but torment. 30
