The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
46 verses, revealed in Mecca after The News (Al-Naba') before Shattering (Al-Infitaar)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By those (angels) who pull out (the souls of the disbelievers and the wicked) with great violence; 1 by the drawers (the angels of death), gently drawing (the souls of the believers), 2 And those who glide swimmingly, 3 And by those that press forward as in a race (i.e. the angels or stars or the horses, etc.). 4 by those that direct an affair! 5 [HENCE, think of] the Day when a violent convulsion will convulse [the world,] 6 to be followed by further [convulsions], 7 Hearts, that Day, will tremble, 8 Their eyes cast down. 9 They say: "Shall we go back to our original state 10 Even after we are crumbled bones? 11 They say: "It would in that case, be a return with loss!" 12 Indeed, it will be but one shout, 13 and they will be upon the surface of the earth (alive). 14 Have you received the story of Moses? 15 His Lord called out to him by the sacred valley of Tuwa: 16 Go to Fir'aun (Pharaoh), verily, he has transgressed all bounds (in crimes, sins, polytheism, disbelief, etc.). 17 And say, "Hast thou the will to purify thyself; 18 And that I guide you to your Lord, so you should fear Him? 19 Then [Musa (Moses)] showed him the great sign (miracles). 20 but the Pharaoh rejected it and disobeyed (Moses). 21 Further, he turned his back, striving hard (against Allah). 22 So he gathered the people, and proclaimed. 23 And then said, “I am your most supreme lord.” 24 So Allah seized him in exemplary punishment for the last and the first [transgression]. 25 Truly there is a lesson in this for those who fear (the consequences). 26
