He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 you attended to him, 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 From him you are distracted. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 And produce therein corn, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
