He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 when the blind came to him. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 you attend to him, 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 lofty and pure, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 his wife and his sons: 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
