He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 For him who does not care, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 exalted and purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 We send down abundant water, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
