He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 and fears (Allah), 9 From him you are distracted. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 We send down abundant water, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 And We made corn grow, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 and olives and palms, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
