The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
When the sun (with its spacious light) is folded up; 1 And when the stars darken, 2 And when the mountains shall be made to pass away, 3 And when full-term she-camels are neglected 4 And when the wild beasts are herded together, 5 the oceans are brought to a boil, 6 when the souls shall be rejoined (with their bodies), 7 And when the girl-child that was buried alive is asked 8 for what sin she was slain, 9 And when the Writs shall be lain open, 10 and when Heaven is laid bare; 11 when Hell is set ablaze, 12 And when the Garden is brought near;- 13 (Then) shall each soul know what it has put forward. 14 I swear by the receding stars, 15 orbiting, disappearing; 16 and the night as it darkly falls, 17 And the Dawn as it breathes away the darkness;- 18 Verily, this is the Word (this Quran brought by) a most honourable messenger [Jibrael (Gabriel), from Allah to the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him)]. 19 Owner of strength, of established dignity with the Lord of the Throne. 20 Obeyed (by the angels), trustworthy there (in the heavens). 21 Nor is your companion distracted. 22 he indeed saw the message-bearer on the clear horizon; 23 He is not chary of making public what is unknown. 24 This is not the utterance of an accursed devil. 25 So where are you going? 26 This is naught but an admonition unto the worlds 27 for whosoever of you who would go straight; 28 Though you cannot desire except as God will, the Lord of all the worlds. 29
