The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
WOE TO THOSE who give short measure, 1 those who, when they take from others by measure, take their full share; 2 But when they have to give by measure or weight to men, give less than due. 3 Do not these think that they shall be raised again 4 unto a mighty day 5 a day when mankind shall stand before the Lord of all Being? 6 Nay! Surely the record of the wicked is (preserved) in Sijjin. 7 Ah! what will convey unto thee what Sijjin is! - 8 The record is a sealed text. 9 Woe, then, to those that give the lie, 10 Who give the lie to the day of judgment. 11 And none can deny it except every transgressor beyond bounds, (in disbelief, oppression and disobedience of Allah, the sinner!) 12 When Our revelations are recited before him, he says: "These are fables of long ago." 13 Nay, but that which they have earned is rust upon their hearts. 14 On the Day of Judgment, they will certainly be barred from the mercy of their Lord. 15 then they shall roast in Hell. 16 Then it shall be said to them, 'This is that you cried lies to.' 17 No! Indeed, the record of the righteous is in 'illiyyun. 18 What could let you know what the 'Illiyoon is! 19 A written record, 20 To which bear witness those Nearest (to Allah). 21 The virtuous will surely be in bliss, 22 On adorned couches, observing. 23 You will find in their faces the brightness of bliss. 24 They will be given pure wine to drink, which is kept preserved, sealed. 25 The last thereof (that wine) will be the smell of musk, and for this let (all) those strive who want to strive (i.e. hasten earnestly to the obedience of Allah). 26 With the wine is a drink from Tasnim, 27 A spring whence those brought near (to Allah) drink. 28 Verily those who have sinned were wont at those who had believed to laugh, 29 and whenever they pass by them, they wink at one another [derisively]; 30 And whilst returning to their homes, they used to return rejoicing. 31 and whenever they see those [who believe,] they say: "Behold, these [people] have indeed gone astray!" 32 Whereas they have not at all been sent as guardians over them. 33 so today those who believe shall [be able to] laugh at those who denied the truth 34 Regarding them from their cushioned seats. 35 Will not the Unbelievers have been paid back for what they did? 36
