۞ When the heaven bursts asunder, 1 And it hearkeneth to its Lord, and is duteous. 2 And when the earth is spread out 3 and throws out of itself all that it contains 4 and obeys its Lord as it must, 5 O man! verily thou art toiling toward thy Lord a painful toiling, and art about to meet Him. 6 And he who is given his ledger in his right hand 7 He shall be reckoned with by an easy reckoning, 8 And he will turn to his people, rejoicing! 9 And as to him who is given his book behind his back, 10 He surely will invoke destruction 11 But will be roasted in the fire. 12 They lived among their people joyfully 13 for he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 But he will indeed! His Lord was ever watching him. 15 I swear by the twilight; 16 And by oath of the night and all that gathers in it. 17 And [by] the moon when it becomes full 18 that you will certainly pass through one stage after another. 19 What, then, is amiss with them that they will not believe [in a life to come]? 20 When the Quran is read to them, why do they not fall to their knees? ۩ 21 Nay, but those who disbelieve will deny; 22 But Allah has full knowledge of what they secrete (in their breasts) 23 Therefore give to them glad tidings of a painful punishment, 24 Except those who believed and did good deeds – for them is a reward that will never end. 25
