The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ When the sky bursts open, 1 and hearkens to the command of its Lord, doing what it should; 2 And when the earth is spread out. 3 And casts forth what is in it and becomes empty, 4 And hearkens to (the Command of) its Lord,- and it must needs (do so);- (then will come Home the full reality). 5 O man, indeed you have to surely run towards your Lord, and to meet him. 6 And as for him whose record shall be placed in his right hand, 7 he will in time be called to account with an easy accounting, 8 and will return rejoicing to his family. 9 But as for those whose Book of records will be given behind their backs, 10 Soon he will pray for death. 11 And he shall roast into a Blaze. 12 Once, he lived joyfully among his family 13 Verily, he thought that he would never come back (to Us)! 14 Nay, but lo! his Lord is ever looking on him! 15 BUT NAY! I call to witness the sunset's [fleeting] afterglow, 16 And [by] the night and what it envelops 17 and the moon when it grows full, 18 that you will certainly pass through one stage after another. 19 What is the matter with them, that they believe not? 20 and [that,] when the Qur'an is read unto them, they do not fall down in prostration? ۩ 21 In fact the unbelievers disavow. 22 And Allah knows best what they gather (of good and bad deeds), 23 Wherefore announce thou unto them a torment afflictive. 24 unless it be such [of them] as [repent, and] attain to faith, and do good works; for theirs shall be a reward unending! 25
