Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 On that day the faces of some people will be humbly cast down, 2 be toiling and worn-out; 3 they shall burn in a Scorching Fire; 4 and will be made to drink from a fiercely boiling spring. 5 There is no food for them except thorns of fire. 6 Which neither give strength nor satisfy the hunger. 7 (Other) faces on that day shall be happy, 8 with their striving well-pleased, 9 In a lofty Paradise. 10 wherein they will not hear any vain talk. 11 In it there shall be a flowing spring, 12 [and] there will be thrones [of happiness] raised high, 13 well arranged goblets, 14 well-placed cushions, 15 And carpets spread around. 16 Do (these unbelievers) not observe the camels: how they were created? 17 And the heaven, how it is reared aloft, 18 And at the mountains, how firmly they are reared? 19 how the earth was outstretched? 20 Therefore do remind, for you are only a reminder. 21 You are not over them a controller. 22 But whoever turns back and denies the truth, 23 Allah will punish him with a mighty Punishment, 24 Surely to Us is their turning back, 25 and verily, It is for Us to call them to account. 26
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
