Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Certainly the news of the calamity that will overwhelm has come to you! 1 Faces on that Day shall be downcast, 2 Labouring (hard in the worldly life by worshipping others besides Allah), weary (in the Hereafter with humility and disgrace). 3 They will enter in the hot blazing Fire, 4 They will be given to drink from a boiling spring, 5 They shall have no food except bitter dry thorns 6 unfattening, unappeasing hunger. 7 (Other) faces that Day will be joyful, 8 well pleased with their striving, 9 In a Garden on high, 10 hearing there no babble; 11 Within it is a flowing spring. 12 Therein shall be couches elevated! 13 well arranged goblets, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 and carpets outspread. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And at the sky - how it is raised? 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 And how the earth was outstretched? 20 Therefore remind, you are only a Reminder. 21 thou art not charged to oversee them. 22 But whosoever will turn back and disbelieve 23 will be punished by God with the greatest punishment. 24 For to Us will be their return; 25 Then it will be for Us to call them to account. 26
