Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Certainly the news of the calamity that will overwhelm has come to you! 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated (in the Hell-fire, i.e. the faces of all disbelievers, Jews and Christians, etc.). 2 Toiling, weary, 3 They shall roast into the scalding Fire, 4 given to drink from a boiling spring. 5 They will have no food except bitter thorn, 6 Which will neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 (Other) faces that Day will be joyful, 8 Pleased with their striving,- 9 In a Garden on high, 10 wherein they shall hear no vain talk. 11 Therein will be a flowing spring, 12 Therein are thrones raised high, 13 and prepared goblets, 14 and cushions ranged, 15 And silken carpets spread. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 and on the sky, how it is raised aloft, 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 And the earth, how it is made a vast expanse? 20 Therefore advise; indeed you are a proclaimer of advice. (The Holy Prophet is a Remembrance from Allah.) 21 You do not have full control over them. 22 But whoever turns back and disbelieves, 23 Allah will punish them with the greatest punishment. 24 Surely to Us is their return; 25 Then indeed only upon Us is their reckoning. 26
