Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn, 1 And the ten nights, 2 Consider the multiple and the One! 3 And by the Night when it passeth away;- 4 Is there not an evidence in this for those who have sense? 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 [With] Iram - who had lofty pillars, 7 Like whom no one else was born in the cities. 8 And how did He deal with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the valley? 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 (All) these transgressed beyond bounds in the lands, 11 and caused much corruption in them: 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me." 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 No! But you do not honor the orphan 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And ye devour inheritance - all with greed, 19 and love the riches, loving them ardently. 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And when the command of your Lord comes – and the angels row by row, 22 And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? 23 He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!" 24 None can punish as He will punish on that day, 25 And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind. 26 But ah! thou soul at peace! 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! 29 And enter into My garden. 30
