Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the dawn 1 and the ten nights! 2 And the Even and the Odd, 3 And [by] the night when it passes, 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Hast thou not seen how thy Lord did with Ad, 6 The people of many-columned lram. 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 And the tribe of Thamud, who hewed rocks in the valley. 9 and Pharaoh, he of the tent-pegs, 10 They were tyrants in the land 11 So they made great mischief therein? 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 Verily thy Lord is in an ambuscade, 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by exalting him and bestowing His bounties upon him, he says: “My Lord has exalted me.” 15 whereas, whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Sustainer has disgraced me!" 16 No. In fact you are not generous to the orphans, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you eat away the heritage, devouring (everything) indiscriminately, 19 And you love wealth with exceeding love. 20 Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder, 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 And on that Day hell will be brought [within sight]; on that Day man will remember [all that he did and failed to do]: but what will that remembrance avail him? 23 He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!" 24 But on that Day none will punish as He (Allah) will punish, 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 Serene soul, 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 "Yea, enter thou My Heaven! 30
