Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn, 1 And the ten nights, 2 by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) 3 And by the night when it departeth, 4 Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? 5 Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad 6 the people of Iram, the city of many pillars, 7 The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; 8 And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? 9 And Pharaoh, of the pegs (impaling his victims)? 10 (All) these transgressed beyond bounds in the lands, 11 and caused much corruption in them: 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 However, when his Lord tests him by a measured amount of sustenance, he says, "God has disgraced me". 16 No! But you do not honor the orphan 17 and do not urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 and why do you have an excessive love of riches? 20 No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed - 21 And thy Lord shall come and the angels, rank on rank. 22 And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance? 23 He will say, "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life!" 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 and Allah will bind as none other can bind. 26 Serene soul, 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 So enter among My servants, 29 Enter thou My Paradise!' 30
