Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ I swear by this city -- 1 And thou art a freeman of this City;- 2 And by the begetter (i.e. Adam) and that which he begot (i.e. his progeny); 3 We verily have created man in an atmosphere: 4 Thinketh he that none hath power over him? 5 He shall say: I have wasted much wealth. 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Did We not grant him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 and shown him the two paths? 10 But he would not try to ascend the steep uphill road... 11 And what do you know what that difficult steep is? 12 It is the freeing of a slave 13 or the feeding, upon a day of [one's own] hunger, 14 An orphan, of kin, 15 Or a needy person in misery 16 and, then besides this, he be one of those who believed, and enjoined upon one another steadfastness and enjoined upon one another compassion. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right. 18 And those who disbelieve Our signs - they are the fellows of the lefthand. 19 Over them shall be Fire closing round. 20
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
