Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ No, I swear by this country (Mecca), 1 And you shall be made free from obligation in this city-- 2 And by the begetter and that which he begat, 3 indeed, We created man in trouble. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 He may say (boastfully); Wealth have I squandered in abundance! 6 Does he then think that no one sees him? 7 Did We not assign unto him two eyes 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And did We not guide him to the two elevated things? 10 But he hath made no haste on the path that is steep. 11 And what have you understood, what the valley is! 12 It is the freeing of a slave; 13 or, in a day of famine, the feeding of 14 to an orphan near of kin 15 Or a needy person in misery 16 and being, withal, of those who have attained to faith, and who enjoin upon one another patience in adversity, and enjoin upon one another compassion. 17 Their place will be on the right hand. 18 and [as for] those who are bent on denying the truth of Our revelations, they are the people of the left hand, 19 Over them shall be Fire closing round. 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
