The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ Nay! I swear by this city. 1 and you are a lodger in this country. 2 or by the great father and his wonderful son (Abraham and Ishmael) 3 We have certainly created man into hardship. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 He may say (boastfully); Wealth have I squandered in abundance! 6 Does he think that none has observed him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes 8 And a tongue, and a pair of lips?- 9 And guide him to the parting of the mountain ways? 10 But he would not attempt the uphill road, 11 And what do you know what that difficult steep is? 12 (It is) Freeing a neck (slave, etc.) 13 or giving food on a day of hunger 14 to an orphan near of kin; 15 or of a needy [stranger] lying in the dust 16 then that he become of those who believe and counsel each other to be steadfast, and counsel each other to be merciful. 17 They are the people of the right hand (and will succeed). 18 But those who disbelieve in Our verses, they are the Companions of the Left, 19 Over them shall be Fire closing round. 20
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
