The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By oath of the night when it covers 1 and the day as it rises bright! 2 And the creating of the male and the female, 3 your striving is indeed to different ends! 4 As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah) 5 and believes in the finest, 6 Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. 7 But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, 8 and denied the Truth of goodness: 9 We will facilitate for him the difficult end. 10 His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 11 Surely Ours is it to show the way, 12 And most surely Ours is the hereafter and the former. 13 Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire 14 [the fire] which none shall have to endure but that most hapless wretch 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 But the God-fearing shall be kept away from it, 17 Who gives his wealth in order to be pure. 18 And no one has done a favour to him, for which he should be compensated. 19 Except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High; 20 And soon will they attain (complete) satisfaction. 21
