He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 From him you are distracted. 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 lofty and pure, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what has God created him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 We send down abundant water, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 with darkness overspread: 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
