The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night when it envelopeth, 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 And by oath of the One Who created the male and the female. 3 Indeed your efforts differ. 4 Then as for him who giveths and feareth Him. 5 And affirms goodness, 6 observe piety, and believe in receiving rewards from God. 7 But he who is greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient. 8 And who belieth the Good, 9 For him We shall ease the way of adversity, 10 His wealth will not avail him when he falls into ruin. 11 Surely it is for Us to show the Right Way, 12 and, behold, Ours is [the dominion over] the life to come as well as [over] this earlier part [of your life]: 13 So I have warned you of a Fire which is blazing. 14 None shall roast therein but the most wretched, 15 Who denies and turns away. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 the Godfearing who spends his wealth to purify himself; 18 And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 He desires only to please his Lord, the Supreme. 20 He will surely be well-pleased (with him). 21
