A large group from the earlier generations. 39 And a numerous company from among the last. 40 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 41 Will be in the scorching wind and boiling water, 42 And shadow of black smoke, 43 neither cold nor graceful in shape. 44 Verily, before that, they indulged in luxury, 45 and persisted in heinous sins. 46 And said: "What! When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we then be raised again? 47 And also our forefathers? 48 (Muhammad), say, "All the ancient and later generations 49 shall be gathered to the appointed time of a known day. 50 Then shall you, O you who err and call it a lie! 51 you will indeed have to taste of the tree of deadly fruit, 52 Then will fill your bellies with it. 53 and thereupon you shall drink boiling water, 54 Drinking even as the camel drinketh. 55 This shall be their hospitality on the Day of Doom. 56 We! it is We Who created you: wherefore confess ye not? 57 Have you seen that which you emit? 58 Is it you that create it or are We the creators? 59 We have decreed Death to be your common lot, and We are not to be frustrated 60 that We may exchange the likes of you, and make you to grow again in a fashion you know not. 61 You certainly knew about (your) first development. Why do you not take heed? 62 See ye the seed that ye sow in the ground? 63 Is it you that make it grow, or are We the Grower? 64 If We willed, We could make it [dry] debris, and you would remain in wonder, 65 'We are debt-loaded; 66 nay; we have been undone!” 67 Did you cast a good look at the water that you drink? 68 Do ye bring it down (in rain) from the cloud or do We? 69 Did We will, We would make it bitter; so why are you not thankful? 70 So what is your opinion regarding the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you who made the tree thereof to grow, or are We the Grower? 72 We have made it as a reminder and convenience for the needy. 73 So glorify your Lord, the most supreme. 74
