The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night when it covers 1 and by the day as it appears radiantly, 2 And Him Who hath created male and female, 3 Indeed, your efforts are diverse. 4 As for he who gives and fears Allah 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Bliss. 7 But for those who are niggardly, horde their wealth, 8 And gives the lie to the best,- 9 We shall surely ease for him the Path of Hardship (the Fire). 10 And what will his wealth avail him when he falls? 11 Indeed, Guidance is Ours, 12 And lo! unto Us belong the latter portion and the former. 13 I have warned you about the fierce blazing fire 14 None shall enter it but the most unhappy, 15 Who give the lie to Truth and turn their backs. 16 But save him who fears 17 one who gives his wealth to become purified, 18 And is under no one's obligation to return his favour, 19 He desires only to please his Lord, the Supreme. 20 He verily will be content. 21
