The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night as it envelops; 1 And by the day as it appears in brightness; 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 Indeed, your efforts are diverse. 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 And accepts the best, 6 We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). 7 But he who does not give and is unconcerned, 8 and calls the ultimate good a lie 9 We will ease him toward difficulty. 10 Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit). 11 Surely Ours is it to show the way, 12 and to Us belong the hereafter and the worldly life. 13 I have now warned you of the Blazing Fire, 14 whereat none but the most wretched shall be roasted, 15 who denied [the truth], and turned away. 16 And avoid it shall the most pious, 17 Who giveth his wealth that he may grow (in goodness). 18 And no one has done a favour to him, for which he should be compensated. 19 Except the seeking of the pleasure of his Lord, the Most High. 20 And indeed, soon he will be very pleased. 21
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
