The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the night, when it envelops, 1 And [by] the day when it appears 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends! 4 Yet he who gives to others and has fear, 5 And testifieth to the Good, 6 Unto him therefore We shall indeed make easy the path to ease. 7 As for him who was a miser and behaved with aversion (to Allah), 8 And rejects the best, 9 Unto him therefore We shall Indeed make easy the path to hardship. 10 His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 11 Surely, in Our hands is guidance, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 I have now warned you of a Blazing Fire, 14 No one will burn in it but the most wretched, 15 Who denies and turns away. 16 He will be far away from the most pious. (The first Caliph S. Abu Bakr Siddiq) 17 Who giveth away his substance that he may be cleansed, 18 and confers no favor upon anyone for recompense 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 and such, indeed, shall in time be well-pleased. 21
