The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
I CALL THE night to witness when it covers over, 1 And the day resplendent 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward divers ends). 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 We shall surely ease him to the Path of Easing; 7 But as for him who is niggardly, and thinks that he is self-sufficient, 8 And disbelieveth in goodness; 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 And what will his wealth benefit him when he goes down (in destruction). 11 Verily We take upon Ourselves to guide, 12 And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world). 13 I have warned you then about a raging Fire: 14 where none shall burn except the most wicked, 15 who belied and turned away, 16 But those most devoted to Allah shall be removed far from it,- 17 Who giveth away his substance that he may be cleansed, 18 They do not expect any reward 19 But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; 20 And soon will they attain (complete) satisfaction. 21
