The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Recite: In the Name of thy Lord who created, 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Recite thou: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 who taught by the Pen, 4 Has taught man that which he knew not. 5 Yet man behaves arrogantly, 6 that he sees himself sufficed. 7 However, (all things) will return to your Lord. 8 Have you seen him who restrains 9 A votary when he (turns) to pray? 10 Have you seen if he was upon guidance 11 or if he commands others to maintain piety!? 12 What thinkest thou? If he cries lies, and turns away - 13 Does he not know that God sees? 14 Indeed, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock, 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We also shall call the infernal guards. 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
