The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ What do they question each other about! 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 concerning which they have disputes. 3 Nay, but in time they will come to understand [it]! 4 Nay! Nay! they shall soon know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And it is We who created you in pairs. 8 And made your sleep for rest, 9 The night a covering, 10 And made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong ones, 12 And placed a lamp therein brightly burning. 13 And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 and thick gardens grow? 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 On that day the trumpet will be sounded and you will come (to Us) in huge groups. 18 The heavens will be opened wide and turn into so many doors, 19 And the mountains will be moved – they will therefore become like mirages. 20 Verily the Hell is an ambuscade: 21 For the transgressors a place of destination: 22 there, they shall live for ages, 23 they shall taste in it no coolness, nor any pleasant drink 24 save boiling water and a stinking fluid -- 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 For indeed they did not look forward to any reckoning, 27 And they denied Our signs to the extreme. 28 However, We have recorded everything in a book. 29 So taste (the fruit of your deeds). We shall only increase your torment. 30
