And convey unto them the story of Abraham 69 [how it was] when he asked his father and his people, "What is it that you worship?" 70 They said: We worship idols, and are ever devoted unto them. 71 He asked them, "Can the idols hear you when you pray to them 72 "Or do you good or harm?" 73 They said: "Nay, but we found our fathers doing thus (what we do)." 74 He said: See now that which ye worship, 75 and what your grandfathers worshipped 76 they are all my enemies, not so the Lord of the Universe, 77 Who created me and Who guides me; 78 And Who feedeth me and watereth me. 79 And heals me when I am sick, 80 “And He will give me death, then resurrect me.” 81 and who, [hope, will forgive me my faults on Judgment Day! 82 "O my Lord! bestow wisdom on me, and join me with the righteous; 83 And uphold my name with posterity, 84 And put me among the inheritors of Paradise. 85 And forgive my father; verily he is of the erring. 86 And humiliate me not on the Day whereon people shall be raised. 87 The Day when there will not benefit [anyone] wealth or children 88 Except him who brings to Allah a clean heart [clean from Shirk (polytheism) and Nifaq (hypocrisy)]. 89 Paradise will be brought near those who take heed for themselves and follow the straight path; 90 And Hellfire will be brought forth for the deviators, 91 who will be asked, "What did you worship 92 Other than Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?" 93 Thereupon they will be hurled into hell - they, as well as all [others] who had been lost in grievous error, 94 And all the armies of Iblis. (Satan) 95 "Quarrelling therein with each other, 96 "By Allah, we were indeed in manifest error 97 When we equalled you with the Lord of the worlds. 98 It is none but those steeped in guilt who led us into this error, 99 We have no intercessors now, 100 Nor any loving friend. 101 If only we could return we would be among the believers." 102 There is certainly a sign in that, but most of them would not believe: 103 And verily thy Lord! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
