The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 And a few from the latter. 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated - 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 and spreading shade 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 And abundant fruit, 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 And carpets raised. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
