He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 his consort, his sons, 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Dust shall cover them 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
