Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? 1 Some faces that Day shall be downcast with fear, 2 labouring, weary, 3 they shall enter a burning Fire 4 Given to drink of a spring fiercely boiling. 5 They shall have no food but of thorns, 6 Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger. 7 [Other] faces, that Day, will show pleasure. 8 well pleased with the result of their striving, 9 In a Garden on high, 10 where they will hear no idle talk. 11 In it is a flowing spring. 12 therein uplifted couches 13 and goblets placed ready, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And carpets spread out. 16 What, do they not reflect upon how the camel was created? 17 And at the sky - how it is raised? 18 And at the mountains, how firmly they are reared? 19 And the earth, how it was spread out? 20 Therefore do remind, for you are only a reminder. 21 You are not a dictator over them. 22 But if any turn away and reject Allah,- 23 Him Allah shall torment with the greatest torment. 24 Indeed, to Us they shall return, 25 And Ours their reckoning. 26
