The Sun (Al-Shams)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Sun and his (glorious) splendour; 1 and by the moon as it follows it; 2 By the Day as it shows up (the Sun's) glory; 3 by the night when it covers the earth with darkness, 4 Consider the sky and its wondrous make, 5 and the earth and all its expanse! 6 by the soul and Who shaped it 7 And inspired it [with discernment of] its wickedness and its righteousness, 8 He will indeed be successful who purifies it, 9 and those who corrupt their souls will certainly be deprived (of happiness). 10 The Thamud (people) rejected (their prophet) through their inordinate wrong-doing, 11 Behold, the most wicked man among them was deputed (for impiety). 12 the Messenger of Allah said to them: '(This is) the shecamel of Allah, let her drink' 13 However, they rejected him and slew her. So their Lord completely destroyed them and their city for their sins. 14 And He does not fear its coming behind (to take vengeance). 15
