The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ What do they quarrel about? 1 About the great news - 2 on which they [so utterly] disagree. 3 Nay, but they will come to know! 4 again, no indeed; soon will they come to know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 and fixed the mountains like pegs, 7 Have We not created you in pairs, 8 made sleep for you to rest, 9 And We have made the night a covering. 10 and We made the day for a livelihood. 11 We raised over you several secure (skies), 12 And made [therein] a burning lamp 13 And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water 14 So that We bring forth thereby corn and vegetation. 15 and gardens dense with follage. 16 Verily the Day of Decision is a time appointed. 17 The day the trumpet blast is sounded you will come in hordes; 18 and heaven is opened, having gates, 19 and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour. 20 Certainly Hell lies in wait, 21 a resort for the rebellious; 22 Where they will remain for aeons, 23 They will neither taste anything cool in it, nor anything to drink. 24 Except scalding water and [foul] purulence - 25 Recompense fitted! 26 They were those who did not expect a reckoning, 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 However, We have recorded everything in a book. 29 (They will be told), "Suffer, We shall only increase the torment for you". 30
