Now, behold, this [divine writ] has indeed been bestowed from on high by the Sustainer of all the worlds: 192 The Trusted Spirit hath brought it down. 193 to your heart that you might become one of those who warn (others on behalf of Allah), 194 In the plain Arabic language. 195 Truly, it is in the Books of the ancients. 196 And was this not a sign for them, that the scholars of the Descendants of Israel may recognise this Prophet? 197 And even if We had revealed it to one among the foreigners 198 And he had recited it to them [perfectly], they would [still] not have been believers in it. 199 Thus do We cause (unbelief) to enter the hearts of sinners. 200 they will not believe in it till they behold the grievous suffering 201 so that it will come upon them suddenly, while they are not aware, 202 Then they will say: Are we to be reprieved? 203 What! do they still seek to hasten on Our punishment? 204 Do you not see that even if We give them respite for years 205 then there comes on them that they were promised, 206 What shall that which they enjoyed avail them? 207 Never did We destroy a population, but had its warners - 208 for a reminder, and We never harmed. 209 The devils did not bring it down: 210 It would neither suit them nor would they be able (to produce it). 211 Indeed they have been banished from the place of hearing. 212 So do not invoke with Allah another deity and [thus] be among the punished. 213 And warn thou thy clan, the nearest ones. 214 and be meek to the believers who follow you. 215 If they disobey you, say, "I bear no responsibility for what you do." 216 And rely upon the Exalted in Might, the Merciful, 217 Who sees you when you stand up. 218 And your turning over and over among those who prostrate themselves before Allah. 219 Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing. 220 Shall I inform you upon whom the devils descend? 221 They descend on every lying sinner, 222 They give ear, but most of them are liars. 223 As for the poets, only those who go astray follow them. 224 Did you not see that they keep wandering in every valley? 225 and they say what they do not do? 226 Save those who believed and worked righteous works and remembered Allah much, and vindicated themselves after they had been wronged. And anon those who do wrong shall come to know with what a translating they shall be translated. 227
