The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the star when it setteth. 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he deluded; 2 and neither does he speak out of his own desire: 3 This is only revelation communicated, 4 He has been taught (this Quran) by one mighty in power [Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 5 Lord of power and wisdom. So he acquired poise and balance, 6 And he was on the horizon of the highest heaven. 7 Then he approached and descended 8 And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer; 9 Thus He revealed unto His bondman whatsoever He revealed. 10 The heart did not lie [about] what it saw. 11 Will ye therefore dispute with him concerning that which he hath seen? 12 Indeed he saw him a second time, 13 By the Lote-tree beyond which none can pass, 14 Near it is the Garden of Abode. 15 When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it]. 16 his eyes did not swerve, nor did they stray 17 Indeed he saw the supreme signs of his Lord. 18 Have you then considered Al-Lat, and Al-'Uzza (two idols of the pagan Arabs). 19 and about the third deity, al-Manat? 20 Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? 21 This is certainly an unjust apportioning. 22 They are not but [mere] names you have named them - you and your forefathers - for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow not except assumption and what [their] souls desire, and there has already come to them from their Lord guidance. 23 Is the human to have whatever he fancies? 24 But it is to Allah that the End and the Beginning (of all things) belong. 25
